, Original Invitation to the Cornonation of King Edward VII
Original Invitation to the Cornonation of King Edward VII
1902. RARE ORIGINAL INVITATION TO THE CORONATION OF KING EDWARD VII OF ENGLAND. Printed on heavy cardstock framed with intricate royal insignia, with the guest's name, Mrs. Wm. Gibson, handwritten in black ink. Also features the embossed seal of the Earl Marshal of England, Henry, Duke of Norfolk. Very good condition overall. The paper is lightly foxed, and there is a tiny closed tear on the left edge. The guest's name appears to have been slightly retouched --- the "s" in "Gibson" has been traced over in blue ink. It also looks like the guest's name was rewritten by whoever originally filled out the invitation; there is faint smudging over which the name was finally written. Overall, a fascinating and attractive piece of English royal history! The coronation of Edward VII was originally scheduled for June 26, 1902, as printed on this invitation. However, due to a sudden abdominal health issue that required Edward to undergo surgery, the coronation was postponed to August 9, 1902. Very Good .

Near fine condition, with just a few spots scattered here and there. Text of a state resolution ordering Maine citizens to withhold from interfering in the laws of other states. The legislature argued that slavery was unknown in Maine (a free state) but that it was not Maine's business to be concerned with what other states were doing. Maine was essentially taking a neutral position on slavery and urging her citizens not to become abolitionists. .

[Black Americana]
An Original Family Photo Album of a Black American Family's Vacations, 1950s/1960s
Album measures 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. 34 leaves, most with several pictures mounted on both sides. A total of 225 photographs, varying sizes but mostly 3 12/x x 6 inch snapshots. The photos were originally in color but on almost all of the photos, the color has faded out. ALBUM IS DISBOUND. All the pages are loose. The paper is brittle and chipped but should be preserved as the identifications of the photos are written on it. Some photos are loose but 80% are still within their photo mounts. The vast majority of photos are from family vacations in 1948, 1952, and 1955 across the American West and are identified on the album page below the photo. Includes photos of Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, San Diego, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, etc. there are also shots from a trip to Virginia in 1952 and a few of Canadian trips in the 1950s/1960s. The photos are usually of two types - either scenery shots or pictures of family members/friends posing with one one another. People are identified by their first name. The family name is not identified. The album came out of an estate in Baltimore and reputedly is of a Baltimore family. An interesting example of an unknown family of some apparent wealth to take an extended Western vacation in the post-WWII era. In Las Vegas, the family stayed at the famed Moulin Rouge Hotel, the first desegregated casino in Vegas and there are five photos of the short-lived hotel. Poor .
